Weekly Update September 28, 2018

What’s New in the OMC Family:

This was an exciting week for our personalized plans!  Students received Lenovo ThinkPad Laptop Computers and Kajeet hotspots so that they can access learning platforms from any location.  We are working hard to provide all students with access to blended and online learning experiences.  Students are up and running on Google Classroom, Canvas, Khan Academy, Online Textbooks, and many other collaborative learning spaces.  We look forward to  seeing how they grow as self-directed learners with access to these resources.

English: As we wrap up our unit on the impact of technology on communication, students created focused notes and participated in a fun, collaborative thesis development activity called Thesis Throwdown!

AVID: AVID students organized their college notes, checked out study rooms in the college library and worked on a khan academy mission focused on making the most of high school through rigorous classes, extracurricular activities, and college entrance test preparation.

ASBThe Associated Student Body finished elections this week, adding a Treasurer, Historian, and Secretary to their very first Griffin Executive Board.  We look forward to creating clubs and working on our first project, which will be Red Ribbon Week!

Math: This week in math we have been preparing for our first unit test on solving equations, inequalities and absolute values.

Counseling: This week in counseling, our counselor will be meeting with students, parents and teachers now that progress grades have been posted.  She will review with students the different resources that are available to them including tutoring.  Mrs. Sand will also help parents activate their ParentVUE account.  In addition, she will provide them an overview of how ParentVUE is a great tool that provides access to their student’s grades, attendance, and also allows them to communicate with teachers.
