Weekly Update October 26, 2018

What’s New in the OMC Family:

English: This week in English, students began the unit on our new graphic novel: March, which is the story of the Selma Civil Rights March as told by Congressman John Lewis.  Students participated in a variety of activities, including a Question Formulation Technique, which is an interactive strategy developed at Harvard University and promoted throughout OUHSD by Jay Sorenson and other members of the district community.

AVID: AVID students shared their collaborative, student-generated Spark Videos that covered the major strands of quarter one AVID, including: Focused Note Taking, The A-G Requirements, The PSAT/SAT/ACT, Organization, and Study Habits for Successful Students.  We had a visit from our district AVID coordinator, Lupe Zamora who was very impressed with the collaboration, creativity, communication, and critical thinking displayed by our Griffins!

ASB: ASB organized and particiapted in Red Ribbon Week.  We enjoyed themed dress-up days and also students contests.  Students created Red Ribbon Week memes, posters, and songs to display and perform during ASB.  We are so proud of the positive choices and school spirit displayed in our ASB class.

Counseling: This Friday students will be visiting CLU!  We will taking a campus tour, followed by a presentation from the University.  Students are learning about the different systems of higher education, and CLU is one of our local private institutions.  We are very excited to take our first field trip!
