Weekly Update November 16, 2018

What’s New in the OMC Family:

This has been a very productive week at OMCHS.  On Monday, I had the pleasure of taking our male students to the library Resource Center.  Dean Luis Gonzalez presented to the students in regards to their mentoring program.  Students have access to mentor college students on a weekly basis.  The program is voluntary and students interested will participate on a voluntary basis.  Later on Tuesday I participated in the Principals meeting hosted by Dr. DeLeon.  We discussed logistics for student safety during hazardous weather conditions.  It was a very productive and informational meeting.  On Thursday our OMCHS faculty got together for a full day of collaboration to review our WASC initial visit school description.  We reviewed and updated the school’s vision, mission and student learner outcomes.  On Thursday our Counselor and I hosted our quarterly parent meeting “Coffee with the Counselor”.  Our Counselors presented on graduation requirements, a-g requirements and the students four year plan.  On Friday I had the opportunity to present to our students during ASB about Students Learner Outcomes and got their input on what it means to be a “GRIFFIN”.

Counseling

This past Thursday, OMCHS held it’s first “Coffee with the School Counselor” parent meeting. Our counselor, Mrs. Sand met with parents and presented on the topics of graduation requirements, the IGETC, and the pathways that OMCHS offers.

Parents were able to get a better understanding of what the four years will look like for their student here at OMCHS. Parents were also able to sign-up for ParentVUE. They went over the website and the information that parents have access to such as grades, attendance, and how to contact their teachers via email from ParentVUE directly. Additionally, parents also had the opportunity to set-up appointments with Mrs. Sand.
