Weekly Update November 30, 2018

What’s New in the OMC Family:

This week I participated in interviews for a part time Resource teacher for OMCHS.  I presented the home school compact and reviewed with students during ASB.  Our students are finishing their art project for their class at Oxnard College and we are including a picture of the students with their project.  We had our second WASC meeting with parents to review the WASC report and get their input.  We provided the parents a copy of the Vision and Mission posters, a copy of student learning outcomes  and a copy of the “GRIFFIN” student qualities.  I have also completed the safety plan that will be sent to Mr. Weinstein for review and later on for presentation and Board approval.

English: This week in English, students worked on literary analysis essays regarding the graphic novel March.  They also wrote compelling blog posts about the civil rights issues that are important to their lives.

AVID: AVID students are creating infographics to share their research on a topic of choice.  They also had the opportunity to participate in the ongoing Oxnard College workshops offered by the Writing and Reading Center.  This week’s workshop was centered around accessing the academic databases offered at the college level.

ASB: ASB is celebrating kindness and peer culture.  We started preparing for our upcoming kindness day!

Counseling: This week in counseling, Mrs. Sand will continue to meet with parents for conferences.  She will also present to the students during AVID regarding the different pathways offered at the Middle College and also cover what their 4-year plan will look like.  Additionally, she will go over OUHSD’s high school graduation requirements.  She will also discuss the IGETC with the students and answer any questions they may have.  Since the end of the semester is quickly approaching, Mrs. Sand will meet with any students that feel they need additional support in either their college class or high school classes.
