Weekly Update March 1, 2019

What’s New in the OMC Family:

English: This week in English, students continued their study of rhetorical analysis and argument.  Additionally, students completed a CAASPP interim block assessment.  Results are posted on StudentVue for parents and students to review.  Please contact Mrs. Guthrie for strategies to continue improving in the reading, writing, and speaking skills that are tested on the state test and in class.  Thank you for all your hard work!

AVID: In AVID this week, students worked together to prepare for their college course.  They also reflected on personal accomplishments in their digital portfolios.  Griffins are encouraged to get involved in community service and extracurricular activities as their schedules and interests allow.

ASB: The yearbook club led the student body through the process of creating individual spotlights for each student in our class.  We look forward to seeing the final products!

Counseling:  Last Friday, Mrs. Sand held an AVID presentation where the students participated in a reflection/check-in regarding their Geography class with Oxnard College.  She also met with parents pf prospective future students and gave a presentation about student life and academics at OMCHS.  This week she will continue to meet with students and parents to ensure students feel supported in both their OMCHS and college courses.

Faculty:  Mrs. Guthrie had the opportunity to attend the California Association of Teachers of English (CATE) Conference in San Francisco.  The theme of the conference was, “Literacy in Pursuit of Human Rights” and there were many amazing speakers and resources that Mrs. Guthrie is looking forward to bringing back to the classroom at OMCHS.
