Weekly Update April 5, 2019

What’s New in the OMC Family:

It has been a busy week for OMCHS after our spring break last week.  We hosted a parent night this last Tuesday, we reviewed students’ schedules. grades and classes that students are taking during the summer and next semester.  On Wednesday, we hosted registration night for incoming freshman.  Students completed the registration with Oxnard College and with Oxnard Middle College High School.  On Thursday we hosted interviews of incoming 9th grade students.  I had the opportunity to meet with representatives from Oxnard College in regards to CCAP classes for HHS and CIHS next fall semester.  I hosted a meeting with Assistant Principals on Advanced Training to review updates for AP teachers and all new resources available for teachers and students on Advanced Placement.  Our students participated in the field trip scheduled in the Physical Geography class to the Satwiwa Nature Center.  Our staff chaperoned the event.

English: This week in English, students began preparations to read the Tragedy of Romeo and Juliet.  We used interactive tech tools to front-load important vocabulary and students watched a flipped classroom screencast about the principles of an Aristotelian tragedy, taking cool sketchnotes along the way!

AVID: In AVID this week, srudents used edpuzzle to create video tutorials about subjects and content that they are currently working on across the curriculum.  Then, they shared the tutorials with peers so that they can support each other as reference creators.  We reflected on the process and look forward to more student created supports this quarter.

ASB: The Associated Student Body met with clubs this week and debriefed the breakoutEDU box challenge that we participated in the last time we met.
