Weekly Update May 24, 2019

What’s New in the OMC Family:

English:

In English, students began working on their final research projects, which tie Romeo and Juliet with current issues in society today. Students were able to select relevant issues to their lives as inspiration for their scholarly research in the Oxnard College Library databases. They also participated in a team digital escape room challenge with a Romeo and Juliet theme!

AVID:

In AVID, students created their own digital escape rooms to review content from across the curriculum!  Period 5 students created a digital escape room for Period 6 and Period 6 created one for Period 5. This activity had them working together in teams to think critically, communicate, and create challenges about English, math, geography, digital citizenship, and more!

ASB:

The Associated Student Body celebrated May as Mental Health Awareness Month with a video, discussion, and some mental health awareness destress coloring.

Academic Enrichment:

Now that the Oxnard College courses are over, students in academic enrichment had the opportunity to use Scratch to do some coding and practice 21st-century creative skills.

Faculty:

This week a student coordinated card-making, lunchtime snacks, and singing to celebrate our math teacher Mrs. Scholl’s birthday! We are so thankful for the many thoughtful community moments that have made this school year special for the whole OMC family.
