Weekly Update June 7, 2019

What’s New in the OMC Family:

Freshmen Orientation: Last weekend, we welcomed the new Griffin class of 2023 to the Oxnard Middle College Family. The current class wrote letters of advice to the incoming students, participated in a question and answer panel, and gave a campus tour. We also did some team building activities. We are excited to continue building the program here at the Middle College!

English: In English, students presented final projects based library database research. Students were able to select projects from a menu, so that they could flex their voice and choice.  Student projects included: spark videos, student-designed webpages, whiteboard animations, brochures, TED talks, songs, and more!

AVID: In AVID, students participated in a second edcamp! One standout session led by a student, included an inspirational talk about how to get involved in the community this summer! Other student-led sessions focused on art, health and wellness, and recreation activities.

ASB: In ASB, students ended the year celebrating the completion of powerful Friday Night Live advocacy videos and sweatshirt design projects! Special thank yous to Carrie Wolfe, Ventura County Office of Education, and Straight Up Video Production for support in these projects!

We also ended the year with good old fashioned game day bonding!

Awards: At the end of last week, we celebrated student and staff awards. We are so proud of all of our Griffin family! We are especially thankful to Mrs. Berumen, the Oxnard Union High School District Classified Employee of the Year! She worked so hard, with such kindness and grace.  All students and employees recognize Mrs. Berumen as the glue that held us together this year!
