Weekly Update October 12, 2018

Students do the task

What’s New in the OMC Family:

Our counselor, Mrs. Sand will be presenting to students on different topics throughout the year.  Her first presentation will take place this Friday!  She will be presenting to the students during their AVID class, on the A-G requirements.  Her presentation will explain what they are and how those requirements are used for college admission.  She will also have the students work on a college scavenger hunt for CLU.  This will allow the students to learn more about the university, before they visit at the end of the month.

English: This week in English, students continued the argument writing process with focus on revision and editing.

AVID: In AVID, students learned how to write professional emails.  They practiced their skills with an email to their counselor, Ms. Sand.  In the email, the students reflected on their academic achievement, strengths, challenges, and area of needed support.

ASB:  The Associated Student Body met this week to plan for the upcoming Red Ribbon Week.  Members of the Griffin Executive Board have been leading the class as a team with the support of weekly lunchtime meetings with Mrs. Guthrie to prepare for activities, discussions, and events.

PSAT:  100% of our OMCHS students took the PSAT 8/9 this week!  The results of this test will give faculty and families important data to help students target academic areas of improvement.  When we receive the results in December, we will link PSAT results and KHAN Academy in AVID class to create personalized study plans for each student.  We look forward to watching our students’ university prospects and test scores rise with the support of our Griffin principal, counselor, staff and teachers!

Math: Monday we took a group quiz on functions.  Wednesday we sat for the PSAT at CIHS.  Friday we will be learning about transformations of linear functions.
