OMCHS Weekly Update!

What’s New in the OMC Family: 

English: This week in English, students presented on logical fallacies through a google slide deck.  They also continued their study of rhetoric, analyzing the article, “It’s Time to Put Woke to Sleep”, blogging with rhetorical appeals, and writing papers that compare the rhetoric used by authors on both sides of an issue.  The Griffins are doing an amazing job working collaboratively through the writing process of drafting, revising, editing, and publishing!

AVID: AVID students continued to their work creating digital portfolios using google sites.  They collected work samples and reflected on objectives, strengths, and areas of improvement across the curriculum.  They also used No Red Ink to practice SAT style passages with individualized and instant feedback.  We are so glad that AVID collaborative study groups and have had the opportunity to work with Mrs. Guthrie (English/AVID teacher), Jocelyn (AVID tutor), and Mr. Van Aucker (Behavior Intervention teacher).  These small groups have provided extra support to our students in all subjects!

ASB: The Griffins had a lot of fun voting for Freshmen superlatives this week.  We look forward to seeing the finished product of their digital yearbook efforts.

Counseling: Last Friday, Mrs. Sand met with the students during AVID and the students reflected on their college course as well as their middle college classes.  The students also filled out a survey, sharing their experiences from semester 1, which included highlights/moments they were proud of, goals for this semester, and areas they wanted to focus on.  This week, Mrs. Sand will be talking to the students about their upcoming field trip to UCLA which will take place on February 13th.
