What’s New in the OMC Family: 

English: This week in English, students selected an article from a CommonLit.org text set to analyze through the rhetorical square process.  They worked on creating digital annotations, selecting quotes that illustrate rhetorical devices, and visually representing claim, audience, and purpose.  The text set included many topics so that students could exercise voice and choice while developing the skills needed to be successful readers and critical thinkers.

AVID: In AVID this week, students received support in their college science course.  They worked in collaborative study groups and added to their digital portfolios.  The Griffins also tried out our new Google Cardboard viewers!  We look forward to taking virtual field trips to East Coast Universities, settings of novels we are reading, and other destinations through google expeditions.

ASB: The Griffin Student Body planned their inaugural spirit week, which will be help March 19-22nd!  Activities will include games and an Escape to Spring Break Team Challenge!  Students decided on the following dress up days:

3/19 Twinsie Tuesday: Pick a friend (or two or more!) and dress in matching outfits. No Griffin left behind! If you are looking for a twin, wear your OMCHS shirt with blue jeans.

3/20 Woke up Like this Wednesday: Wear your favorite (school-appropriate) pajamas!

3/21 Thankful Thursday: Wear crazy socks! (Optional: Bring an unopened package of new socks to donate to local a homeless shelter)

3/22 On Fridays We Wear Memes: Dress up as a meme or print a meme to wear.  (Note: all memes must be school appropriate and family friendly)

Counseling: This week Mrs. Sand presented at the 8th grade parent night at Rio Real School on the topic of A-G requirements.  She wanted parents and students to begin to be familiar with the term and how this relates to the college application process.  She also shared with families about the dual enrollment program that OMCHS offers and the pathways available.  She also is continuing to meet with parents to review their child’s progress this semester.  This week she will be meeting with the AVID students to get an updated check-in regarding their college course and also doing an activity/presentation.
